Full description
PRN 54202
An old packhorse bridge which has three arches and is twenty metres long by one and a half metres wide. It was built about 1310, probably by Bishop Walderby. {1}
The bridge was repointed and repaired in 1840. It was built of Lincolnshire limestone and consists of three arches with a cobbled roadway and a parapet which is now slightly eroded. The masonry is well preserved and in good condition. The south end has been repaired but the north end has a ragged finish. It stands adjacent to the modern road and is apparently used as a footpath. {2}
There is some descrepancy on the actual date of the bridge, as Pevsner dates it as 15th century. {7}
A packhorse bridge dating from the 15th century with 20th century alterations. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {8}
