PRN 60724
[This record includes material from PRN 60969, now deleted.]
A mound 3ft high and 30ft in diameter known as Butt Mound and associated with the field name of Butt Lees. {1}
A grassy mound left in an arable field, 1.0m high and 10m diameter.{2}
Butt Mound is one of a group of four mounds which was recorded in Butt Lees in the early twentieth century. The only other mound still evident, Folk Moot (PRN 60722), is the subject of a separate scheduling. The group appears to represent the remains of a Bronze Age barrow cemetery. The Butt Mound is thought to have been re-used as an archery butt in the medieval and post medieval periods. {4}
