Full description

The wall is approximately 9m high and 15m long and 1.8m wide, and is probably the north wall of the Roman basilica that stood here on the north side of the forum. The bases of the portico pillars are still in situ in the bail. Bonding courses of tile are more frequent near the east end suggesting that there was a return wall to the south at this point. {1}{2}

The wall is also know as the 'Mint Wall', and is Grade I Listed. It was constructed in c.100AD, excavated in 1980 and restored in 1991. It was built of coursed rubble with tile bonding courses, putlog holes and had a renewed pantile coping. It is approximately 20m long and up to 5m high. It is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument. {3}
