Full description

North of the 'Roman camp' at North Kyme was a mound 100 feet wide at the base, recorded by Trollope in 1872 and Oliver in 1846. Two bronze rapiers were found possibly in the barrow in 1820 and are now in Alnwick Museum (see 62516). The barrow is marked on the first edition OS 1 inch map of 1824. Nothing further was found when the mound was later removed. In 1964 there was a barely perceptible rise at this point in a field now under plough. No surface finds were made. {1}{2}
This site may be associated with the conjectured Anwick-Kyme causeway (62535). {3}
