Late 17th century country house built for the Newton family, altered c. 1700 (probably by William and Edward Stanton) and 1734-40 (probably by Robert Morris) for Sir Michael Newton. The current house was built c. 1679 for Sir John Newton. It is referred to as having been "rebuilt" at this time but no information is given about any earlier house. {2}{3}
