Full description

Ancaster Hall is predominantly 17th century with 18th and 19th century additions and alterations. Built in dressed limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings, it has stone-coped gables and a finial at the north end, together with two stone ridge chimney stacks and a plain tiled roof. Originally, the building was L-shaped in plan, but in about 1700 a parallel range was added to the rear. At the front there is an off-centre, early 18th century, double door flanked by stone mullioned casement windows. Traces of an earlier 17th century phase with a moulded plinth can be seen on the south side. Internally, the building contains an early 18th century staircase, contemporary decorated plaster ceilings and oak panelling. At the front of the house is an 18th century stone balustrade. The building is now subdivided into flats.
