Full description
A quarry is marked on the 1920 Ordnance Survey map. {1}
During extensions and alterations to the county asylum, later known as St John's Hospital (PRN61564), in the late 1890s, a quarry was opened on asylum land to provide limestone for the building work. It is likely that this quarry is the one that belonged to the asylum as the asylum cemetery already existed on adjacent land to the west (PRN65780) and the quarry is not present on the 1888 OS mapping. {2}{3}
