Full description
A series of irregular and sub-rectangular pits are shown but not named on the Ordnance Survey 25" first edition map of 1887 in the NW corner of the monastery boundary. They have the appearance of extraction pits. [1]
'Fish Ponds' printed and shown on a 1970 edition of the OS 1:2500 map. [2]
'The large hollows at its (the North Bail's) north west corner interpreted by the Ordnance Survey as 'fishponds' remain. Their size and profile would suggest that they are nothing of the sort, an their most likely purpose is as a series of crew-yards.' [3]
