Full description

A metal detecting survey on land at Sandhills Farm was carried out by members of the South Yorkshire Searchers, September - October 1981. Part of OS parcel 8238 was divided into 10m grid squares and searched. In addition to metal finds, surface pottery was also collected.

61 coins were found, in no particular concentration. They were mostly of 4th century date, with a few 3rd century. The archive includes a coin list.

Few other metal finds were of Roman date, but they included a crossbow brooch fragment, part of a ligula (a narrow ontment spoon) and a 2nd century headstud brooch.

47 pieces of pottery included 2 sherds of samian ware, 1 decorated. [1, 2]
