Full description

A pipeline survey produced in 1983 for British Gas includes a site visible on air photographs :

'Cropmarks probably related to monastic fish ponds. TA119 106' (sic). [1]

British Gas record sheet, compiled in advance of the proposed pipeline c. 1985, records further information:

Site SH107, TA119 186. Cropmarks. Note from LHA 1966, 50: 'Field was drained & ploughed in 1966, fish ponds untouched. Surface finds of 13th - 15th century pottery, some roofing tile and one buckle.' [2]

Clear patterns of field boundaries and ridge & furrow are visible as soilmarks on vertical aerial photographs. [3, 4]
