Full description
The earthwork of a long mound, probably a Neolithic long barrow. The remaining barrow is c.40m by c.18m and survives, intermittently, to 1.5m high. The barrow is surrounded by a relatively modern dry stone wall (it shown on the OS 25 inch map surveyed 1881), less than 1m high at its maximum though it has been lowered in 2012 and 2018. It was surrounded by a modern post and wire fence which made the wall and the barrow heavily overgrown because there was no access for scrub management or grazing.
In 2010 a plan was put in place to manage the site and scheduled monument consent was applied for. Work took place in 2012 when the fence was removed and part of the wall taken down. The site was then cleared of scrub and reseeded in grass. From 2012 the site has been grazed by sheep and was in good condition 2018 more of the wall was removed to ensure that the sheep have full access to graze the site.
