Full description
The Augustinian Priory of St Peter at Thurgarton was founded c 1119 - 1139 AD (by Ralph de Ayncourt) and dissolved in 1538. (1)
The present church incorporates the mutilated remains of a church of c 1230 AD, and the C18 house contains a pillared cellar of 7 bays representing part of the cloister building. A C19 plan showing the monastic layout is preserved at the Priory. (2) (3)
C13 undercroft of the west range of the cloister, comprising 5 bays in a double width with circular columns and moulded capitals to the arcade and quadripartite vaulting. Church C13 nave and parts of aisles. (4)
