Full description
The orientation of the buildings (L9338, L9339) and the presence of so many burials (M17213) show that we must consider these structures as religious buildings. The discovery of painted plaster and the excavation of many fragments of glazed roofing tile emphasise this point… The foundation of the Priory (M1775) dates from before 1140. It would seem likely, therefore, that the uppermost of these two buildings was part of the Priory. The most feasible explanation would appear to be that it was the mortuary chapel. (1)
