    GV II
Bridge. Probably late C16, partly rebuilt after Civil War and widened C20. Limestone rubble with squared dressings and some ashlar at lower level. East face has irregularly-spaced triangular cutwaters and 8 eliptical arches. The parapet and the whole of the west face are C20
    (V.C.H.: Oxfordshire, Vol. VII, p.5)
    Listing NGR: SU 59398 98751
    (2) No stone parapets, but posts and rails. Scene of a Civil War skirmish between Prince Rupert and the Parliamentarians. Bridge has 8 arches, 5 spanning river channel, 3 over the flood plain to the S. Originally timer structure with stone arches. Probably rebuilt wholly in stone in late C16; partly rebuilt again after Civil War when scene of skirmish between Prince Rupert and Parliamentarians (1643). Now 8 elliptical arches with irregularly spaced triangular cutwaters
    (3) Recent restoration (c.1979) has resulted in parapet renewed including cutwater and refuges. Division between old and new work is quite clearly seen. It apparently used to have posts and rails on either side but these curiously enough do not appear on Cobb's drawing
    (4) Not classifiable for MPP because of late C16th date
7-10) Transferred to Oxon History Centre.
