  • Description

    (1) Insufficient information to identify this as a castle or motte for MPP
    (2) Site identified as being similar to Ascott Earl motte at Ascott-under-Wychwood
    3) There is a flat-topped stony mound in Ice House Clump; it is at the edge of the escarpment and has beech trees more 100yrs old growing on it. There are signs of walling and a lot of rubble and the inner side has been dug into by an old quarry. [Original sheet has been transferred to Oxon History Centre).
    4) Based on Wessex Archaeology field visit to site, it was determined to be extant, but threatened by footpath at base and trees
