Consists of presumed location of W gate to town defenses. No evidence of date for West Gate, although, if original, it may date to the reign of Alfred (871 - 899).

    1-4) The site of the West Gate has been moved from the town ditch to above NGR, which is the junction of the line of the Town Defences and the W end of High Street which clearly follows the line of its medieval predecessor.
