    Consists of presumed location of East Gate of Wallingford - Original Grid Reference given (SU 6098 8943) locates it in relation to early ford. Alternative position at SU 6093 8949 at intersection of town wall, E end of High Street and projection of line of Wallingford Bridge

  • Description

    1) Town wall has a significant bend at this junction, a feature present at both north and south gates. East gate not mentioned with other gates in 1555, probably superseded before then by a gateway at west end of bridge with a chapel over.
