Summary

Double moated enclosure of regular rectangular form, in which stands the farmhouse. NW, SW, and NE sides remain of the outer moat. Fourth side destroyed by buildings. NE and SE sides of an inner ditch remain

  • Description

    (1) Double moated enclosure of regular rectangular form, in which stands the farmhouse. NW, SW, and NE sides remain of the outer moat. Fourth side destroyed by buildings. NE and SE sides of an inner ditch remain
    (2) Triple-moated and ditched area, river moat, deep and defensible survives on NW, NE and SE sides, covered by 1540 building on SW side. Middle moat survives on SW, NW, NE and SE corner. SE side removed by buildings. Outer moat very slight survives on SW, NW, NE and SE corners. No trace on S and SE sides.

    (8) A sketch survey of the moat was made in 1972 following notification from the owner of his intention to clear out part of the moat which had become choked with weeds and silt. The triple lines of the moat could clearly be seen, the inner one deeper and wider than the two outer ones
