  • Description

    1) - 3) Penrose, who owned the site excavated it in 1766 and found remains of a 'considerable doorway running apparently north to south on the eastside of the mound'. West of this wall, ie within the building, was a room with a tesselated pavement and north of it a hypocaust floor with pillars. About 1800 most of the stone remains of the building were removed for road building.
    4) Not classified for MPP. Evidence suggests it was probably a bath house.
    6) Visible as cropmarks in Fairey aerial photos. (examined during Cherwell District cropmark survey).
