Summary

According to Hearne the castle at Benson stood west of the church, where bones, spurs, bridles, swords etc had been found. Area now built over with modern housing and no remains visible.

    3) Names Castle Close, Castle Inn and Castle Square in village some distance east of church, do not conform to Hearne's description of location. Possible alternative site. Area of Hearne's site now built over with modern houses. Low-lying, no remains visible on ground.
    4) Insufficient information to classify as a castle for MPP.
