Summary
Postulated as a siege or counter castle constructed against Wallingford Castle during Stephen's reign. However, the earthwork remains are undoubtedly a complex of fishponds.

1) Site visit by Paul Smith and Paul Jeffery revealed that site is probable medieval fishponds, not the moated site reported in VCH and Oxo article by Spurnell. NB: Notes discarded as all info added to this record.
2) Castle represented by fragment of moat at its NW corner, partly destroyed by bldg of railway in C19.
5) Report on historical setting and restoration plans for the fishponds. Information includes plan of fish pond, and findings.
