NoneDescription
(1) Excavation in 1939 dated both mound and ditch to early C12th. Within enclosure is Elizabethan manor house with many later alterations and additions.
(2) Report on trial excavations in 1939.
(3) Castle complex interpreted as domestic rather than defensive; Examination of earthworks suggested defended refuge, rather than a serious defensive work. Mound appears not to have its own ditch, confirmed by 1939 excavations by Gardiner and Jope. Small size of tower suggests us as residential keep, rather than as a look out.
(4) Classified as motte and bailey for MPP
