  • Description

    (1) Site of old manor-house, described in 1813 as as 'an ancient stone building called, it does not appear for what reason, Shellingford Castle'.
    (2) Early C16th range of cottages SW of Church is probably the manor-house offices; but little of C16th date or interest now visible
    (3) Castle site now occupied by farmyard and grass plot
    (4) Buckler water-colour of 1818 shows C16th house of 2 storeys, 3 attic gables to SW, 4 gables to SE face, front of house flush with cottages mentioned earlier
    (5) Site is not classified as a castle for MPP - it appears to be a C16th manor house
