Summary

Site of a chapel, south-west of Isle Farm. Documentary sources list the incumbents from the 13th century to the 15th century. It is alleged that it was burnt down during the Reformation Its approximate position is marked on the earliest large-scale Ordnance Survey map of 1881, adjacent to the south-west corner of the moated site which lies next to Isle Farm. This area has been heavily disturbed by tree-planting, and no traces of any structure are visible.

Description

The list of the Incumbents of Rossall Chapel runs from c 1240 to 1444. The chapel, which stood outside the rampart and moat of the manor house (SA 1104) was mentioned in 1291 but not in the Valor Ecclesiasticus temp Henry VIII, having apparently fallen into decay in the C15 <1a>
The site of the chapel is under grass and young trees. No traces of a building was found. OS FI 1961 <1>
