Description

Built in 1824 to replace SA5620. The life of the theatre was short. In 1856 New Market Buildings (PRN 17292) were built on the site <1>

"Elements of the moat and town defences (PRN 00374) were revealed between 30 and 40 feet deep in 1824 during construction of the new theatre built by John Smallman at Postern Gate. He had to build strong piers and turn arches to form a secure foundation." [Source not given]. <4>
