Description

During renovation work on outer bailey curtain wall, part of wall collapsed. Watching brief over trenches dug for scaffolding revealed modern and late post medieval deposits more than 0.50m thick inside wall, and over 1m thick outside walls. Some indications of a rock-cut ditch <1>

Debris from collapsed wall section recorded, and evidence for possible external tower considered <2>
