Description

A circular tumulus, one foot in height and on higher ground than, and beyond the flood level of the find-spot of the Broadward Hoard (PRN 00746). The mound is partially cut away on its north side by the fence and ditch of an adjoining meadow. It has been reduced to its present height many years ago, because a very large ash tree, recently fallen, grew on the present level. Banks suggested that the urn found with the Broadward Hoard originated here <1a><1b>

No traces of a round barrow could be found. OS FI 1979 <1>

Area photographed during aerial survey in 2010, and 2012. <2><3><4>

Possible, very slight, sub-rounded earthwork visible to the east of the recorded location of this 'barrow' on LiDAR imagery (centred SO 3903 7619), although this remains highly conjectural. <5>

Nothing apparent in topographic survey carried out across this area in 2010, as part of the investigation of the Broadward Hoard site. <6>
