Summary
A dark grey greenstone perforated axe hammer, in the Birmingham City Museum, was found in 1886 at a great depth in the High Street facing the Town Hall, Shrewsbury. The implement has been re-used and partly re-worked.

Description
Lily Chitty, in her 1951 article, reported on a dark grey greenstone perforated axe hammer, in the Birmingham City Museum, labelled Neolithic [sic] Axe Head. Found at great depth High Street facing Town Hall, Shrewsbury 15/9/86 . The implement has been re-used and partly re-worked. This is presumed to be, but is not certainly, from the Shirehall deposit, [<1><2>] just possibly from site 60200, the only recorded building work going on (in 1885) around the right time to have affected the Shirehall peat deposit, the most likely context for a prehistoric find at great depth in this area <3>
