Description

Plot series on the north side of Wyle Cop at the east end of the street. Characterised by constituent plot boundaries which generally exhibit an eastward curve at the rear (e.g. no.35) or formerly did so. The east end of the series has been disrupted by the 1829 redevelopment of the Jones's Mansion site [PRN 01489]. The eastward curve is interpreted as another example of a riverine/bridgehead plot series designed to maximise rear access to a waterfront, the classic Shrewsbury example being on the north side of Mardol [PRN 62413]; as a landscape form it is not closely dateable, though most examples seem to fall broadly into the early medieval (c.10th-12thC) period. <1>
