Description

A short section of low embankment was noted to the immediate NE of Pen-y-bryn farmhouse during a site vist in 2015. It perhaps represents the remains of Offa's Dyke between an earthwork stretch to the S (see PRN 01000) and the stretch at the Ceiriog (on the Welsh side of the border). The low bank is ill-defined on the west side and on the east side it falls to a sinkhole located within the garden area. Recorded as a speculative interpretation, but on the correct alignment. <1>

Visit to a section of the dyke which Fox had identified at Pen-y-Bryn (<2a>). Field visit confirmed survival, running down c.40m from the road to the river. The part beside the road was obscured, but recorded lower down the slope as a spread bank c.0.30m high, apparently without a ditch to the W or E. <2>
