Description
Small station with signal post to south marked on 1st edition Ordnance Survey 1:10560 map. Marked as station (disused) on 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 1:2500 map. <1><2>
Melverley Station was operational between 1871 and 1880 and again 1912 to 1933. Main station on the PS&NWR Criggion branch, built just N of unique seven arched overbridge carrying a minor country lane [PRN 32881]. Small brick bungalow for station offices. Platform was E of the line; short goods siding. <3>
Building has been demolished and line removed on modern vertical aerial photograph. <4>
Melverley Station is described as still surviving [in an undated report - but probably 1980s]. Described as brick built, one of only four on the line. <5>
Site visited on 24th June 2017, but unable to locate any remains. It appears from the map that everything has been demolished. <6>
Site of railway station on the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Railway, opened in 1911, closed to passengers in 1931 and entirely in 1949. <7>
