Description

Terrace wall and property boundary between the Nag s Head plot and no.22 Wyle Cop, next door to the east. Retains an unmeasured but substantial change in ground level. Seen at the rear of the Nag s Head garden in 1993, the wall consists of 18th-early 19th-century brickwork over courses of red sandstone [<1>]; the (lower) east side of the wall has not been inspected. Its relationship with the Nag s Head buildings suggests that this property boundary must have been in existence by the 15th century, though the chronology of the terracing process here has not been established. Like its neighbouring property boundaries (60212, 62387), this probably owes its irregular plan to the accommodation of properties and their terraces to the line of Wyle Cop and the natural contours <?>
