Description

Located by the north-east corner of building/mon 62425 on the Della Porta 1926-7 redevelopment site (60123), just short of 65 feet (c.20m) south of the High Street frontage: a large square manure pit...surrounded by oak piles, driven many feet into the unstable ground...ordinary palings and a gate between the piles, to one of which was attached a chain for tethering goats or small animals <1>

The chain was amongst a group of artefacts donated to the Borough Museums in 1961 by the site architects widow <2>
