Description

Section of the medieval, probably 13th-century, town wall excavated in the Oxford Archaeological Unit's 1993 trench 10. Built by 1246, when the friars' gate nearby was broken through it (mon.62). Masonry survived 3 courses high, on a slight bank (possibly a property boundary, possibly upcast from a slightly earlier ditch: see 62396) with a top at 49.48m. About 1.7m thick [<1>], stone type not specified <2>
