Description

Formerly known as the King's Head Shut (from a pub on the High Street frontage), later as Peacock Passage from an inn at the other end [<1>]. UAD field visits to cellars in the properties either side disclosed probable medieval ranges running back off the High Street (62371, an undercroft, to the west; 62374/5, post-medieval cellar incorporating earlier elements, to the east). The passage may therefore have developed along the grain of the plots and buildings servicing the interior of one or more plots and developing into a through route and public right of way.
