Description
The town wall, north of the Council House buildings. The line is clearly apparent from Burghley's and subsequent maps, and the terrace wall on this line incorporates sandstone masonry. This section of the wall has not been inspected and details of its fabric and condition are not available. It also represents the east side of the outer bailey defences and is likely to be superimposed over or cut into the earlier rampart (see 62502). The wall appears to run up the motte (62504) but whether that section is structurally distinguished is unknown <1>
