Description
A fragment of the town walls incorporated in the retaining wall on the east side of the road. Of sandstone rubble and probably C13. <1>
Although this section of wall does indeed include some sandstone rubble masonry, a 13th century date for it and its association with the town defences are unlikely; it is more likely to represent the remains of a post- medieval terrace-retaining wall incorporated in the modern retaining wall. <2>
