Description

Mill, now disused. Early C19 incorporating north gable end of demolished C17 millhouse. Red brick and uncoursed limestone rubble; plain tile roof. 3 levels, dentilled eaves cornice. Segmental-headed window openings to ground and first floors on west side with segmental-headed doorway on right. South gable end incorporates timber framed gable end of former millhouse; square panels with upper and lower collars to roof truss; plank door linking house with mill and part of red brick and stone bread oven and stack also survive. North gable end has massive cast-iron overshot wheel with wooden spokes powered by water obtained through iron pipe from nearby moat. Interior: gearing and cogs for grinding and pulleys for lifting survive along with corn bins and shutes to third and second levels respectively. The mill stands at the south-west corner of the moat surrounding Pond House Farmhouse (qv) <2>
