Summary
A watching brief took place on a trench dug at what was then the western end of Bargate Street in 1960/61 (SOU 610). Towards the north side of the street, a stone course was seen 3 feet below the ground surface. Sloping layers, possibly backfills of the medieval outer town ditch, were also found. The location is now a pedestrian area, west of Portland Terrace. (See parent record MSH3424 for further details about this part of the town ditch.)
