Full description

SOU 130 (Site 1, Upper Bugle Street) (excavation on the east side of Upper Bugle Street in 1953):
[1] in [2]: The ground level had been reduced to the natural gravel in the modern period. A wall was found, possibly medieval, founded on a limestone base; it was about 0.80m wide. It lay between the north edge of the backfilled castle ditch (MSH3403) and a large trench or pit thought to be the robbed foundation trench of the castle bailey wall (MSH822).

SCC HER 2/12/09: The wall appears to have been aligned east-west. It appears to be just east of stone wall MSH934 which is perhaps the same wall. The wall is in the area of the possible barbican in front of the south gate of Southampton Castle, although the layout of the castle in this area is very uncertain.

GIS: position of wall very roughly estimated using figures 33 and 34 of [1]. IP 30/6/04
