A well cut out of the rock and arched over with brick. The arch cannot be earlier than the 15th century. It is called 'Nun's well' (although no nunnery is known here), the name probably deriving from the fact that the well is situated upon property granted by Henry II to the Abbey of Farewell. (SB, 13-Nov-2003) <2>

Nun's Well is a spring rising in a chamber, 3.0 metres long and ?1.2 metres wide and high, which has been cut into the rock. The sides of the chamber are built up with stone blocks and it is arched over with 'Tudor' type brick work (probably 16th century. An overflow to the south joins the Redmoor Brook; a large oak grows over its mouth. (SB, 13-Nov-2003) <3>

The location of the well is clearly marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey 1:2500 map, dating from 1884. (SB, 13-Nov-2003) <5>

A poor copy of a photograph shows Nun's Well from the south-west. (13-Nov-2003) <6>

A tree is growing at the site of the well, but the lidar shows a depression at this location. This is set within a straight sided scarp forming three sides of a square, the ground slightly falling away on all but the western side. (EAC 21-Jul-2017) <7>
