Full description
A mid 20th century stone monument marking the grave of Matilda Cross (died in 1945) and a second stone monument marked with a Christian symbol which probably represents a second burial. The graves are probably those of nuns of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit (or the Daughters of the Heart of Mary), who occupied Caverswall Castle from 1933 to 1977. The area to the west of these graves is moss-covered and one area in particular is markedly sunken and is divided from the rest of the grounds on the 1937 Ordnance Survey map indicating that this may have been a private burial ground for the order of nuns.
