In the same village Gilbert holds one hide from William. Lovett held it and he was a free man. There is land for two ploughs. There is one plough in lordship. Probably a cross roads settlement until approach from east diverted around Himley Park. Age of 449 uncertain. Note the parallel north-south lane to the west of the village centre. <2>

Himley Hall (PRN 09209) is believed to occupy the site of a former medieval moated manor site (PRN 01149). The manor house, and the Barony of Birmingham, was inherited in 1740 by John Ward of Sedgley. He demolished the house and backfilled the moat, constructing a new palladio style residence on the site. Ward was also responsible for moving the village of Himley, which was originally located immediately to the west of the house. The village was moved much further west to be located outside the park, and the houses and church were levelled. (NGR therefore circa SO 8870 9155). (JM, 28-Apr-2003) <3>
