Full description

Moated Site: An impressive double moated site containing Littywood Manor House (PRN 00057). The site consists of:
A) A circular outer moat circa 215 metres in diameter;
B) A broad inner bank;
C) A broad inner moat;
D) A circular central mound (site of the cruck-framed hall).
The main earthwork is a massive, circular flat-topped bank with corresponding flat-bottomed ditch outside enclosing an area circa 100 metres in diameter. An outer bank 10 metres wide and 1.8 metres high for a short distance on the south-west side. The ditch is still water-filled on the east side and was probably originally so all the way round. In the centre is a raised area from which a slight causeway runs south-east to the outside of the earthwork. <1>
