    <1> Thirty-nine Roman pottery kilns were discovered during the construction of a housing estate between the Great North Road between 1953 and 1957. All the kilns are now covered by the housing estate, and there are no visible remains.
    <2> Cantley kilns east group is comprised as follows.
    Kilns 4,5,6 and 20, Acacia Road. All these kilns dated to the mid/late 2nd century except No 20 which is dated to the late 2nd/3rd century; all produced greyware.
    Kiln 7, Birch Road. A pear shaped kiln, dated to the first half of the 4th century, it produced mortaria and imitation Samian.
    Kiln 8, Birch Road,. Dated to the mid to late 2nd century, it produced mainly greywares.
    Kiln 13, South of Acacia Road, It produced greyware.
    Kiln 17, found in Acacia Avenue. Mostly destroyed before excavation.
    Kiln 19, Maple Ave. Destroyed before excavation.
    Kiln 21, NE side of Lilac Grove,. Mostly destroyed during building work, it produced greyware.
    Kilns 22/3, East of Birch Road dated to the mid/late 2nd century, it produced greyware.
    Kiln 25, East of Birch Road,. Possibly dated to the mid/late 2nd century, it produced greyware.
    Kilns 26-29, Birch Road/Acacia Road,. Damaged during pipe laying, they produced greyware.
    Kiln 35, St Peters School, Pottery kiln dated to the late 3rd/4th centuries, it produced greyware.

    <3> <4> Kilns 4-8 and 13,17,19-25 in this vicinity.

    <5> Pottery Report for kilns 9-25 was written by S.M. Creegan and published in 1956.
