The West Berkshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary index of the physical remains of past human activity in the unitary authority of West Berkshire Council. Limited elements of the West Berkshire HER are available online via the Heritage Gateway, therefore it is not suitable for use in desk-based studies associated with development, planning and land-use changes, and does not meet the requirements of paragraph 194 of the National Planning Policy Framework (2021: 56). Please read the important guidance on the use of the West Berkshire HER data. For these purposes and all other commercial enquiries, please contact the Archaeology team and complete our online HER enquiry form.

The White House in Donnington village was renamed Brook House in the early 21st century. It is Grade II listed as an early 19th century building of grey brick with a slate roof <1>. It is marked but not named on the First Edition Ordnance Survey mapping of 1880-1 <2> in a large square plot which runs down to the river Lambourn. An adjacent smaller property within this plot, has been called Riverside Cottage since at least the later 20th century <3>, and possibly Brook House or The White House was previously known as Riverside, one of the large houses in Donnington mentined by the Victoria County History <4>.
