Full Description
The description for the Registered Park of Donnington Grove <1> notes that its main entrance crosses the river Lambourn and then curves northwest towards the house, passing the 'brick Pink Lodge'. This lodge has not been listed.
The lodge is shown on the First Edition Ordnance Survey mapping <2> although it cannot be identified on the earlier Ordnance Survey Drawing <3>. It is presumed to date from the period when Donnington Grove park was created (late 18th century) or slightly later, although it may be significant that it, like White Lodge to the east, is sited in the 'north park'. The park was extended beyond the river Lambourn after 1783 <1>. However White Lodge is a late 19th century building, perhaps then taking over the function of a gate lodge controlling access from Donnington village.
