Full Description
V-SHAPED DITCH, 6FT WIDE AND 3FT DEEP AT CENTRE WAS FOUND RUNNING FROM UNDER THE BATH ROAD, AND TRACED A DISTANCE OF 50FT IN A STRAIGHT LINE SOUTHWARD, WITHOUT REACHING THE END. FILL CONTAINED RUBBISH DEPOSITS INCLUDING EVIDENCE FOR METALWORKING.
METALLIC SLAG AND SCRAP, BOTH IRON AND BRONZE, CALCINATED STONES, BURNT WOOD AND A LARGE NUMBER OF IRON NAILS AND STAPLES FOUND IN FILL OF DITCH.
Also about one hundred partly melted coins found on the edge of the ditch, and a bronze fibula, Kimmeridge shale bracelet fragments, blue glass bead, spindle whorl of pottery, hippo-sandal, iron stylus and iron objects - many of these were much decayed.
