Full Description

THE VILLAGE OF WEST WOODHAY. RECORDED IN 1221. ORIGINAL CHURCH (NOW DESTROYED) DATES BACK TO AT LEAST 1332; PRESENT CHURCH IS TO THE EAST OF THE VILLAGE. WEST WOODHAY HOUSE BUILT 1635, POSSIBLY BY INIGO JONES. THE MOTTE TO THE SE OF THE VILLAGE (SMR 1891) WAS EXCAVATED IN 1935.

West Woodhay was granted a charter in 1317 for a market and fair to be held at the manor <5><6> .
