Full Description
Lock constructed between 1718 and 1723. Was originally turf sided and was rebuilt in 1767 to accommodate the wider Newbury barges. It was narrowed in 1831 to standardise the Kennet and Avon. Until at least the 1960's the wide lock survived with GWR rail and sleeper sides.
